The Cat and the Comma

About Alex

Alex is a speculative fiction writer and mountain of indescribable goo living in the PNW. When they aren't gluing pieces of metal together, they're reading from their arsenal of books, being a general menace, or playing video games. You can contact them via email at authoralexharvey@gmail.com, or by howling into the woods when you're alone at night.

The Cat

How long have you been writing?

Ever since I was six years old. The first thing I remember writing was World of Warcraft fanfiction involving my parents' characters. Yes, really. I've been writing off and on ever since.

What are your pronouns and preferred means of address?

My pronouns are they/them. I will respond just fine to "hey dude", "sup man", "what's up my good bitch", and other such slangy/sarcastic terms. However, if you start calling me pet names, we're fighting.

What are your preferred genres?

Fantasy of all sorts is my top genre. Otherwise, I like speculative fiction as a whole. I also tend to read way more broadly than I write, so my "preferred" genres only count for what I write. Lately, I've also taken a pivot towards more darker fiction. Horror with fantastical elements, horrific fantasy, etc.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Just about everywhere, to be honest. From books I read, games I play, songs I listen to, pictures I look at, podcasts... Even things I do out of habit. When I say "just about everywhere", I really do mean it.

The Comma

What are your writing plans for 2023?

That's a little too long an answer for this page, I think. Instead, this post on my website is a list of my writing goals for 2023. And then this is my breakdown month by month of how I'm trying to accomplish those goals!

Where is the best place to read your works?

Depends on the work. Here is a link to all of my projects and where you can find them, because I post different things in different places online.

What would you say is your best work?

Depends on the day. Right now, I would say it is "Within These Twisted Vines", which was published as part of an anthology. You can read the whole anthology here, or you can just buy the short. Otherwise, I would also say that A Sharper, More Lasting Pain is one of my best works right now.
